phase MAIN_TRANSEXEC/PARMVNT_TRANS very slow
Hi all,
we're installing EHP7 for ERP6.0.
SUM seems to be stuck in the Phase MAIN_TRANSEXEC/PARMVNT_TRANS. We can see logs written in .../SUM/abap/tmp, but with hours of no change.
The system runs on Solaris 11, DB is Oracle 12, SUM Version is 1.0 SP14 (PL6).
What can we do to speed things up?

Error 10054 is indicating that the TCP/IP connection between 2 nodes has been lost.
Possible causes:
- Incorrect termination of the connection on one side
- Physical network problems
The following SAP notes might help:
#413330 - Network timeouts
Please also review:
# 0155147 WinNT: Connection reset by peer
# 0500235 Network Diagnosis with NIPING
# 34116 Syslog: "Operating System call xxxx failed"
# 559119 Call disconnections in the syslog or dev_rd
# 516027 Gateway error due to terminated TCP connection
Other steps:
Return code 10054 means that the connection was reset by peer. "Connection reset by peer" indicates, that the connection was interrupted by the communication partner or an active network component in between. Since this is often caused by one of the communication partners, it is not automatically an indicator for a network problem.
Also have network team verify that there are no physical hardware problems with the network.

The phase PARMVNT_TRANS is a database intensive phase, 99% of the work is reading/writing to the DB, please involve you DBA for tuning.
1. Confirm you have updated the tp, R3trans, DBSL and kernel to the latest
2. Confirm if the location of the data files is on a network drive or local, if network move to local.
3. Check the note 1616401 - Understanding parallelism during the Upgrades, EhPs and Support Packages implementations
Also attach us the SAPupConsole.log file.

thank you for your hints.
The actual problem was an ORA-Error. Both TPs were locking each other as I could see in the .../SUM/abap/tmp/PD*...-logfile.
Solution: Killed the TPs and repeated the phase in SUM.

Check in DBACOCKPIT or DB02. Is it listed in Missing Indexes ?Create all missing indexes from there and retry the upgrade.
If it related to HANA then may be you can check below note
2211793 - "invalid index name: column already indexed" during support package import

The duplicated keys could be already there in the source system.
In the source system, you should goto SE14 and click the "Check" button for EKPO. Make sure no inconsistency especially on the index.

Sorry, I didn't come back here to give the solution.
So, after about 10 exports/imports with different tests, we found the solution !
This problem is due to an Oracle bug because of table compression.
The SAP note which indicate this problem is :
SAP Note 1970224 - Missing or wrong data in OLTP compressed tables after expanding columns to be > 255.
The fact is that upgrading in ECC6, some tables are modified and get more than 255 fields.
And when we export the DB to convert it unicode, it generates duplicate keys because of this bug.
We only get the bug for table EKPO at our side.
So, we proceeded in the following exact order :
- SAP Upgrade from 4.7 to ECC6 Ehp7
- SAP SBP installation (SBP201505 in our case), containing the necesary bug fix
- Database export
- SAP installation and DB import
We ran the production migration at the beginning ot november and all was ok.

Error 10054 is a normal error, nothing much to worry about. If you double click the error in SM21, it will show you the description of the error and this generally happens due to fluctuations in the network.
As Daniel has given you all the possible resolution with the description of the error, please check with your network team for a thorough analysis.
you can also try updating the kernel.
