You can follow the steps which we are planning to upgrade in our environments
1. Refresh the system from production to Sandbox system, and then perform the upgrade in the sandbox system.
2. you can follow the same steps in the live landscape environment which will not have any own modifications / developments.

the XML is most likely correct, but SUM has a limitation with the upgrade of Netweaver to EHP1 for SAP Netweaver 7.0 , if it is a pure Netweaver system. EHP1 for SAP Netweaver 7.0 upgrade is not supported by Maintenance Optimizer and SUM, but I recall that EHP4 for SAP ERP 6.0 upgrade is supported.
EHP4 for SAP ERP 6.0 is quite old. If it is possible at all, it would be more 'future proof' to go to EHP7 for SAP ERP 6.0.

It is always recommended to upgrade the Operating system and Database to the required levels of target version[here ERP 6.0 EHP 7] as mentioned in PAM and then you can start upgrading the SAP system.

Check the attached document "SUM_SP14_paths.pdf" in SAP Note 2084104 which is the central note for SUM SP14.
the supported target version for ERP/NW04 is upgrading to EHP6.
If it's pure NW04, the supported target version is NW 7.3

Per our practice, there is no dependency between BW 7.4 and ERP 6.0 without EHP. We had BW 7.4 SP05 and ERP 6.0 without EHP; we do not have SEM-BW and FI-BASIS.
Just wondering if upgrade BW 7.4 SP05 to the high level SP like SP 13 (the latest one), should we upgrade ERP 6.0 to a certain equivalent SP level? Or there is no dependency also?
