Shadow instance start up failed during upgrade preprocessing

Dear All,

 

We are upgrading our SAP R/3 4.7 to ECC 6 EHP7. O/S is AIX 6.1 and database is Db2 9.1 FP10.

 

We are getting following error during upgrade pre-processing .

 

Severe error(s) occurred in phase MAIN_SHDPREPUT/START_SHDI_PREPUT!

Last error code set: Shadow instance couldn't be started, check 'STARTSSC.LOG' and 'DEVTRACE.LOG': Process /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/exe/sapcontrol exited with 2, see '/usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/log/SAPup.ECO' for details

 

Belog is the log from /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/log/DEVTRACE.LOG

Environment variable DB2DB6EKEY  is already set to OS2ri3pa043.

output of the command setenv

 

I have stopped SUM, sap on primary, shadow instances & regenerated the password file by using below command.

dscdb6up -create <connect_user password> <sidadm password>

 

Replaced the Kernel present in /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/exe with the latest target release kernel available from service market place.

 

I tried to restart SUM but no luck.

 

I tried to start shadow instance manually, but failed with below error

 

ri3pa043:os2adm 10> cd /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/bin

ri3pa043:os2adm 11> ./SAPup startshd

Starting shadow system ...

Starting service ...

 

FATAL ERROR: Process /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/exe/sapcontrol exited with 2, see '/usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/log/SAPup.ECO' for details

 

I am attaching  DEVTRACE.LOG, STARTSSC.LOG from /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/log & dev_w0 from /usr/sap/OS2/SUM/abap/system/OS2/DVEBMGS02/work.

 

Can someone please check the logs & help me.

Hi Gaurav,

 

Thanks for the reply. I have already gone through the SCN thread Error when installing dialog instance | SCN& I was able to execute below command successfully.

 

dscdb6up -create <connect_user password> <sidadm password>

 

But when I tried to start up shadow instance manually after executing above command, it was failed with below error.

ri3pa043:os2adm 11> ./SAPup startshd

Starting service ...

When I execute command db2 connect to OS2 user sapr3 <connect user password>, it failed with below SQL error.


 

Please let me know if you need any further logs.

 

Please help me to resolve the issue.

Hi Vinay,

 

Regarding your issue, can you please check if


.dbenv_<server>.csh
.dbenv_<server>.sh


exist under /home/<sid>adm


Maintain the DB2DB6EKEY environment variable if it is missing according to the guidelines of the note 582875:


1. su - <sid>adm
2. su root
3. setenv DB2DB6EKEY <sid><hostname>


then the entry should not occur in the work process files


582875 DB6: SAP cannot log onto the database


Stop all processes of the system afterwards (including sapstartsrv
process) and try to start the system.

What's the version of your tool? In case the sapinst is too old that before SAP starts to support MSSQL 2008, then of cause it will give such warning.

 

 

I guess you don't want to use SWPM tool due to kernel release. You need Installation Master DVD for 700 SR3 as introduced in note #1076022 - Release planning for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (R2)

e) Installing an SAP system on SQL Server 2008 (R2) with older Installation Master DVDs

If the installation master is older than 700 SR3, you cannot use the installation package to install a new SAP system on SQL Server 2008 (R2).

Where as the files present under /db2/db2<sid> & environment variable DB2DB6EKEY correctly maintained there.

 

But when I execute setnenv command as user <sid>adm, it's showing the entry DB2DB6EKEY=OS2ri3pa043.

 

I tried to copy .dbenv_<server>.csh, .dbenv_<server>.sh files from /db2/db2<sid> to /home/<sid>adm & tried to start the shadow instance but the start up failed & it created a core dump of 30 GB under shadow instance work directory & corresponding file sytem got full.

Hi, We have upgraded our system into SAP ECC6 EHP7 SP5 Upgrade - SAP-HR component still in 604, when I checked the latest is 608 1. May I know why its not upgraded to 608 automatically 2. When I read its says when I add add-on SAP HR Renewal 2.0 , SAP HR will be upgraded. Is it compulsory to go for SAP HR Renewal 2.0 3. What is the advantage of SAP HR Renewal 2.0

ECC6 EHP7 compatibility with BW 3.5

Hi,

 

We plan to upgrade from ECC6 EHP4 to EHP7. We would like to know EHP7 compatibility with the following SAP systems currently existing in the landscape:

 

SAP BW 3.5   (release 640)

SAP SCM4.10     (release 640)

SAP PI7.1   (release 710)

 

 

Do we have to consider upgrading above three systems also, is it mandatory.

I would really appreciate your suggestions and also if you can help with relevant document and notes.

Dear Aayush,

 

SAP BW 3.5   (release 640) :

 

Independent upgrade to ERP 6.0 EHP7 is not possible for BW system. You have to upgrade BW system along with the ECC.

 

 

SAP SCM4.10     (release 640) :

 

You dont need to upgrade the SCM system. Upgarde of ECC system is not dependent on SCM scenario.

 

 

SAP PI7.1   (release 710)

 

As per the SAP recommendation , PI system has to be the first system to upgrade and it has to be on higher release compare to other system in the landscape.

 

So you have to upgrade the PI system to SAP netweaver 7.4.

 

Also do follow the Upgrade Dependency Analyzer

I am also facing same issue..when i download the file file contents are proper,  but when i gave file path as application server folder path, the contents are filled with many #...could you please let me know how you have resolved your issue..

Have you performed a oracle upgrade recently.

 

As from the log provided the client information is still pointing to 10g.

I suspecting the issue is with client as it is not allowing the connection.

So can you please once check if you have the old oracle client available and also do verify your oracle_home if required make it to as below:-

 

setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/NP3/11204

 

And updateDIR_LIBRARY & SHLIB_PATH using old client details.

 

also do verify if you have the oracle client extracted in your exe directoried for the .jar files.

 

if the .jar files are not there you can copy them from the existing instaclient.

Dear Steven,

 

SSFS configuration is not getting reflected for Oracle.

 

Try to remove the parameter from spfile and pfile

 

1. OS_AUTHENT_PREFIX =  ops$

  2. REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT = true.

 

 

Now setup the SSFS configuration and retry the steps.

Your system is running on Oracle database 11.2.0.4.0 but it is still using Oracle Instant 10.2.0.4.0

Stop the complete system. Update the client and restart the upgrade.

Hi,

1.Can you please check weather PORT 25 is blocking or not.

2.check default domain setting in SCOT transaction.

3.Set correct IP address of mail server or third party tool mail server iP address(EX:Hamster)

4.check script file running or not.

5.In mail server reconfigure POP(incoming), SMTP(outgoing) mails.

6.Check SAP SMTP parameters settings.

7.Test send mail Via SBWP transaction

8.Assign authorized Mail address for user via SU01
