This is pretty much what we do... we update these components on the different systems whenever we are doing support packs anyway, but not necessarily just for their own sake, unless it is related to a support pack update on Solution Manager itself.
However, I'm annoyed that the calendar for Solution Manager 7.1 seems to have disappeared, as we do try to plan updates to that in relation to updates to our operational systems, especially now that support pack updates to SolMan seem to be much more involved than they used to be.
